Houston Short Track Racing Competition is Revving Up – Legends and Ladies For the Win!

Houston, TX, (September 10, 2019) Just coming off of a successful Labor Day Classic, the hard-charging drivers of the Texas Short Track Racing Series (TSTRS) took home the cash, trophies and bonus payouts thanks to Advance Auto Parts. And this racing series is doing more than handing out winnings. It’s revving up the competitive spirit among this close-knit group of racers and welcoming newcomers to the fold. The teams, techs and officials are all coming together to continue the tradition of short track racing in Houston, at the only asphalt track in Texas, The Oval at HMP. And it’s ensuring that racing as a sport can be handed down for generations, perpetuating racing camaraderie and connections (thank you Facebook and IG!). Gina Schild Knowles, General Manager, TSTRS, says, “This is racing, no matter who or where. Racer, promoter, spotter, Crew Chief, Team Owner, Scorer, Track Crew, Concession, Front Gate…it takes a team to make it work on every level. This is what keeps the gates open and fresh rubber on the track. And of course, it’s all for the fans in the stands.”

Those who joined us in August saw this first-hand with the truly inspirational comeback of Greg Davidson, known in racing as “The Texas Legend”. Greg returned to Victory Lane with his #96 Outlaw, after a four-year health battle, ultimately losing his left leg. His determination and tenacity paid off with a full standing ovation from the crowd. Greg has promised more to come as he tweaks his car and skill under his new circumstances.

The next generation is bringing the heat as well, as the Allison Legacy Class had a trio of young ladies come home with the trophies in August. Jaida Simental (age 18) of Get-Zum Racing out of Leander, TX, qualified first, landed the pole, and ultimately took second place, behind Peyton Michel (age 18) of Allen Speed Racing from Liberty Hill, TX with the checkered flag. Alexis Sampson, from New Braunfels, TX of S&S Racing placed third, making it an all-girl podium. Keep your eyes on these talented drivers, as they are the ones to watch!

Behind the scenes today, these teams are all turning wrenches, fine-tuning engines and preparing for an all-out, spectacular show, as the Texas Short Track Racing Series speeds on with the Advance Auto Parts Race Night scheduled for Saturday, September 28th at The Oval at Houston Motorsports Park. As part of the fall schedule, you can see racers taking to the track in seven classes featuring Eco Stocks, NASKarts, Pro Mods, Pro Trucks, Super Stocks, Outlaws plus Dwarfs and Allison Legacy! Come see fast-action racing and enjoy a family-friendly outing at the Oval at Houston Motorsports Park, where local racing legends are made.
